2019-2021 Porsche Taycan
The Porsche all-electric sedan rivals Tesla in terms of power, performance, and high-tech appeal. The Taycan is a six-figure low-slung four-door sedan that is quick, agile, rides smoothly, and is a blast to drive. The EPA-rated range is 203 miles, and charging takes 11 hours on a 240-volt plug, however, public charging is more seamless on the Tesla. Depending on the speed, rear-axle steering steers the wheels in the same or opposing directions. The front seats are spacious and comfy, while the back seats are somewhat cramped. The Porsche Taycan has a spacious trunk as well as a smaller one in the front. The controls can be confusing and remain so even after repeated use, and the EV-related displays aren’t as visible as they are in a Tesla. Although the car is sizeable, the interior atmosphere falls short of that of previous Porsche models. A less pricey rear-wheel-drive version was added for 2021. The range of the 4S with the performance battery has increased from 203 to 227 miles, and the wagon body type, dubbed Cross Turismo, is a new addition. According to several independent studies, driving the Taycan is significantly more rewarding than a Tesla. And, despite its 5,100 pounds of weight versus the Tesla’s 4,900 pounds, the Taycan always feels firm on twists and turns, thus Porsche takes the lead in terms of handling and agility.
2022 Porsche Taycan
With the 4S Plus version’s EPA-rated range of 227 miles, Porsche’s low-slung four-door EV is quick, agile, and highly pleasurable to drive, and rides comfortably while remaining on the road longer. On a 240-volt connector, charging takes 11 hours for the larger 93-kilowatt-hour battery. The Taycan battery makes use of pouch cells that are chemically tuned for maximum performance and extended range. There are 33 modules with a total of 396 cells in the big capacity version (Performance Battery Plus). In addition, instead of the standard 400 volts, the battery uses 800-volt technology. The result is increased charging and driving performance due to lower cable cross-sections, which reduces total weight. The front seats are roomy and comfortable, but the back seats are a little tight. The slanting roof and bulging fenders limit visibility to the rear and sides. The touch-screen controls are difficult to operate and remain unintuitive despite frequent use, and the EV-related displays aren’t as visible as they are in a Tesla. The 2022 Porsche Taycan sports a big back trunk for larger cargo and a small frunk, or front trunk, for smaller items. The interior mood falls short of that of a Tesla, despite the car’s size. RWD and wagon variants are available at a lower price, and AEB with pedestrian recognition and FCW are standard.
